'Stuffed helmet', Inktober 2016 #11

Well, I'm officially behind now, though I'm hoping to catch up tomorrow. Yesterday was Thanksgiving and though I fully intended to get drawing - and did - the daily project did not get beyond the sketch stage. Instead of doing yesterday's catch up, I concentrated on getting today's done.

One of the running "Gags" with my character Karyce is that while she is a spacer, she's often using donated equipment that was originally owned by someone else. She has coveralls with burn marks and puncture holes from where the previous owner was killed while wearing it, and here she is trying to put on a helmet several sizes too big for her. To make it fit, she stuffs it with a scarf and this image shows that process, or at the very least, adjustment of it.  This isn't the first time I've approached this subject, I did this painting last year, based on a drawing I did the previous year: panspec.deviantart.com/art/Kar…, although in this pic, the helmet doesn't look particularly oversized, nor does the scarf look very stuffed in there.

The hatching started out well, I thought, but as I look over it, I wish I had changed the direction of the bracelet shading in some instances, such as the neck, and left out some here and there. I could endlessly tweak it, I suppose, but here it is with warts and all as an Inktober entry.
